The three things I do with my top/bottom fridge that I couldn't do with a side-by-side fridge is: Fit an entire pizza box in the fridge when I'm lazy and don't have enough tupperware, Fit my honking large mixing bowl full of cookie dough into the bottom shelf (it's about as wide as my current fridge), Put cookie trays into the freezer in between batches to make sure they're cold, so each cookie batch is consistent (and the bottoms of the cookies don't burn).
That's why I'll always try and get a top/bottom fridge.
